Pearl, Mississippi
Saturday, June 27th

Music, food and fun is in order for this weekend’s big event — the 36th annual Pearl Day.  Pearl Day kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 9 a.m. The city’s parks and recreation director, Mike Goolsby, said, like previous years, he expects thousands to attend. Goolsby said about 1,500-2,000 should be there Saturday evening.

On Friday, Mississippi musician Jeff Maddox and Christian rock group Surviving Life will play. Maddox goes on at 7:30 p.m., and Surviving Life at 8:30 p.m. “We’re setting up Friday night for the youth,” Goolsby said.

On Saturday, a variety of music — ranging from country to gospel — will resonate from City Park. That night, headliner T. Graham Brown will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.  Also, Saturday is packed with games and entertainment, and the event has food and other booths.

Carnival rides will be available Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday, Goolsby said.  Entrance to Pearl Day is free, but the rides will cost.  The city honors Pearl’s incorporation of a city.  “Pearl Day is a celebration of the city’s incorporation or birth,” Mayor Jimmy Foster said. “The day the city was chartered at the end of June.”

NORTHEAST TEXAS MUSIC FESTIVAL
by
Maryann Miller

The pavilion at City Park in Winnsboro rocked on Saturday, June 20th for the 9th Annual Northeast Texas Music Festival. Kicking off nearly 12 hours of continuous live music was local singer, Dale Cummings "The C", followed by Kimberly Green. They both returned later in the afternoon for more sets, and by then it was probably over 100 degrees in the pavilion When Kimberly took the stage for the second time she joked that if you looked up "trouper" in the dictionary "you'd see these folks. It's great that you braved the heat and came out to support all the talent appearing today."
